To help members, industry partners and policymakers better understand housing trends across Michigan, your state association created an online dashboard that allows users to see single-family home (SFH) permit numbers broken down by region. The dashboard, created in partnership with Frankenmuth Insurance, includes interactive charts with monthly single-family home permit totals, average market value and average square footage summaries. With this data, users can see a detailed monthly snapshot of building activity in our state. The HBA of Michigan/Frankenmuth Insurance Housing Permit Dashboard can also be used by builders and developers as a tool to track market activity, trends and competition to help validate decision making. 

The heat map in the dashboard is an interactive tool that gives users a visual indication of which counties have the most SFH building activity, along with contact information for preferred Frankenmuth Insurance agents. The agents featured on this map are part of HBAM’s partnership with Frankenmuth Insurance which connects builders with insurance professionals who understand the needs of Michigan’s residential building industry. These preferred agents can help builders navigate coverage options, protect their businesses and connect with local support in the communities they serve. 

The permit dashboard has SFH permit data through April 2026 and gets updated as new monthly data becomes available.
